Restoration
For clients both at home and abroad, we craft authentic-style picture frames and restore damaged paintings and frames with respect for their origins. Thanks to our mastery of both classical and centuries-old craft techniques, we can restore every object with an eye for detail, originality, and durability. What others dare not attempt, we carry out with passion and precision.
A detailed process
Carefulness, expertise, and respect for the original are always our top priorities. We work exclusively with reversible (removable) materials and follow the ethical guidelines of E.C.C.O. – European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers’ Organisations, which stands for high professional standards in restoration and conservation.
Prior to any conservation or restoration treatment, we conduct a thorough examination. We utilize UV light, infrared reflectography, and both digital and analogue microscopy, among other methods.
Every restoration is meticulously documented in a comprehensive report, complete with before, during, and after photographs. In this report, we transparently account for the materials used and the methods applied – with a view to the object's past and future.
Conservation & Restoration
Secure your art for the future.
Conservation (preservation) and restoration (repair) are two different concepts, but they cannot exist without each other:
Conservation
It aims to preserve the original and slow down deterioration, and is therefore often necessary. Conservation includes, for instance, repairing tears, holes, and cracks, and consolidating paint layers to prevent paint loss.
Restoration
Focuses on improving the aesthetic appearance. This often involves the removal of surface dirt, discoloured varnishes and overpaintings, and retouchings, as well as the application of new retouchings and a fresh varnish layer.
Our Method
How we work with care and craftsmanship.
- Removal of surface contamination
- Removal of the old varnish layer
- Fixing loose paint particles
- Warm steam treatment
- Repair of tears, holes, cracks in textile substrates
- Edge and overall doubling
- Clean rear
- Fill gaps and retouch
- To get the canvas to the correct tension
- Gluing cracked panels
- Applying a new varnish coat
